What are the OUPV/Six-Pack captain’s license requirements?

The basic minimum requirements for getting an OUPV/Six-Pack captain’s license are:

• Obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC Card)
• Minimum age: 18 years old
• Pass a Physical Examination
• Pass a DOT Drug Test unless enrolled in a USCG-approved random drug testing program for the last 180 days, and with no failure or refusal to participate in a chemical test for dangerous drugs.
• Adult CPR/Basic First Aid training
• Complete a USCG Original License Application Package
• Minimum of 360 days of boating experience. Ninety of these days must have occurred in the last three years. The Coast Guard calls this recency.

What sea service time is required for an OUPV/Six-Pack license?

You need to have at least 360 days since age 16: 90 days in the last three years. For the Near Coastal, 90 days seaward of the boundary line, and for the Great Lakes, 90 days on the Great Lakes.
